We are delighted to offer a tour staying for 4 nights in the lovely Hungarian town of Mosonmagyarovar referred to as Ovar amongst the locals. The town can be traced back to the 1st Century which was when the Roman Empire was extended to the river Danube It has a population of 33000 and lies close to both the Austrian and Slovakian borders. This perfect location makes it an ideal base as it’s only a one hour drive to Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest. The local restaurants, shops and cafes are extremely reasonable. Frank Mackin’s favourite is the Varket Café which is one of the most famous coffee shops in Mosonmagyarovar. They also have excellent and inexpensive local Hungarian wines. This tour offers a taste of 3 great European cities with a perfect location in the undiscovered North-western part of Hungary.
We depart Dublin Airport for our direct flight to Bratislava. On arrival we are met by our tour guide who is leading the group. We then travel to the Hotel Minerva in Mosonmagyarovar where we are based for the next 4 nights.
After breakfast we travel to Budapest for a full day excursion. On our city tour we will get to admire some of the many attractions of Budapest. Often described as the “Little Paris of Middle Europe”, Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its own 1,000 year old history, but also for the relics of others who settled here. The city has two sides, Buda and Pest, divided by the mighty Danube River. Pest boasts the largest parliament building in Europe which will remind you of a grander version of London’s Houses of Parliament. Buda has its historic castle and medieval streets and houses. The afternoon is free for you to explore Budapest and enjoy its riverside promenade, flea markets, bookstores, antique shops and excellent restaurants and café houses.
After breakfast we travel to Vienna for a full day excursion. Vienna is known coffee houses, cosy wine taverns and Viennese charm, where old world meets new. After our city tour you will have free time to explore this wonderful city.
After breakfast we depart for our full day excursion to Bratislava the capital of Slovakia, which is set along the Danube River by the border with Austria and Hungary. It’s surrounded by vineyards and the Little Carpathian Mountains. The pedestrian-only, 18th-century old town is known for its lively bars and cafes. Perched atop a hill, the reconstructed Bratislava Castle overlooks the old town and the Danube.
We return home from Bratislava to Dublin Airport.
