Lourdes is a beautiful town nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. Our base for 5 nights is the Hotel Paradis which is located on the banks of the Gave river and is situated only a short walk from the sanctuaries and the Grotto. Lourdes receives more than 5 million visitors from all over the world every year. Spirituality, whether belonging to history, is part of the present through the depth and beauty of the sight, the marks of the past, the serenity of the Sanctuaries. Lourdes was just a small market town on the 11th February 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous met, along the Gave, the “Lady” that made the town a Marian city. It was what Our Lady said on the 13th apparition, on 28th February that was to be decisive for Lourdes’ future. “Go tell the priests to build a chapel here and come in procession”. Today Lourdes is a place of universal meeting and sharing, prayer and celebration of life. The serenity and tranquillity of Lourdes has brought peace of mind to many pilgrims. The Lourdes Grotto is another Catholic shrine and place of meditation. It is located on a hill in the western part of the city where you will find the image of the Lady of Lourdes. LOURDES SCHEDULEDetailed below is our schedule for our trip to Lourdes. It is entirely up to you if you wish to partake in the schedule. Day 1We depart Dublin Airport for our Aer Lingus flight to Toulouse. On arrival you are met by Frank Mackin who is leading the group and you will be transferred by coach to the Hotel Paradis.www.hotelparadislourdes.com . Dinner tonight and every night is in the Hotel. This evening we walk down to the Torchlight Marian Procession. This takes place each evening at 9pm as it has done since 1872. It begins from the Grotto and ends in the square in front of the Rosary Basilica. Everyone is invited to carry a lighted candle in their hand, a reminder of Baptism. At the end of the Procession the Priests and Bishops present give the Blessing. The pilgrims are then invited to attend the last Mass of the day at the Grotto of the Apparition. This is at 11pm and will be in French. Day 2We visit the Lourdes baths, which are just behind the grotto. Please note that the water is ice cold and there are normally queues to enter them. In the changing area there are volunteers who wrap you in a gown in the cubicle assigned to you and help you change your clothes. You go into the water wearing this gown. Day 3This morning we depart for a day excursion to Biarritz with its panoramic location on the Atlantic coast, in south – western France. Spain is only 12 miles away. The town is very proud of its Basque heritage and its flags and symbols are prevalent throughout Biarritz. We depart late afternoon for our return trip back to our hotel. Day 4This morning you have the opportunity to attend mass in the chapel of Saints Cosmas and Damien. This will be in English. Day 5This morning you can attend the International Mass in the Underground Basilica of St Pius X. The mass starts at 0930 but to be sure of a seat it is recommended to be there one hour beforehand. Day 6We depart the hotel for our return Aer Lingus flight from Toulouse to Dublin.
