Full Itinerary
For the last few years I have been operating a walking tour to Gozo, staying there for 5 nights and the last 2 nights in Malta. I have decided to operate a tour just staying for 7 nights in Malta with all the excursions being by coach rather than on foot. Malta is a unique island in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea steeped in history. The Irish always get a warm welcome from the Maltese as the two nations have a lot in common. Virtually everybody speaks English and with 370 churches they have one to visit for every day of the year. It is a very small island, only 22 miles long and 12 miles wide but there is a lot to do and see in such a small area. We will be staying for 7 nights in the 4 star Santana Hotel in the seaside resort of Qawra.
DAY ONE
On arrival at Malta Airport you will be met by Frank Mackin who is leading the group and who will arrange the coach transfer to the Hotel Santana in Qawra. Our hotel offers an excellent location in the resort of Qawra. It is just a couple of minutes walk from the promenade, a sandy beach, public transport, shops, bars, restaurants and many other recreational facilities. DAY TWO
We have a free day of leisure.
DAY THREE
After breakfast we travel by coach to the medieval hill top city of Mdina where our local tour guide will lead us on a walking tour through the narrow streets and admire the magnificent architecture. We then proceed to the remote Westside of the island visiting the spectacular cliffs of Dingli. Our lunchtime stop is in the picturesque fishing village of Marsallox where you have an excellent choice of restaurants. . In the afternoon we travel to Mosta where we visit its famous church and admire its huge unsupported dome.
DAY FOUR
We have a free day of leisure.
DAY FIVE
After breakfast we head to Maltas capital city of Valetta which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our local tour guide will walk us through this truly breathtaking medieval city with its fantastic views of the Grand Harbour. We also visit St John’s Co. Cathedral. During our tour of the Cathedral you can also admire the famous Caravaggio’s masterpiece, ‘The Beheading of St John’. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon giving you plenty of time to soak up the many charms of Valetta.
DAY SIX
We have a free day of leisure.
DAY SEVEN
After breakfast we visit the unspoiled island of Gozo. It is known as Maltas little sister and is only a 30 minute ferry trip away. We visit the main attractions such as the Inland Sea and Azure window. The capital town of Victoria with its magnificent Citadel, the beautiful seaside village of Xlendi Bay and the Basilica of Ta Pinu, the Maltese Islands most famous centre for pilgrimage. We return to our hotel late afternoon.
DAY EIGHT
We say goodbye to our hosts in Malta and travel back to Ireland.
